WEEKEND REVIEW

Scintillating weekend action across the globe comes to an end. As usual, the football community was treated a feast over the past few days. As is synonymous with weekends, it is always packed with a great number of varieties of football matches to choose, this weekend was not any different. From the encounter at the King power stadium, to the clash at Pamplona to the late drama at Santiago Bernabeu, to the annihilation at the Allianz Arena to the clash at Old trafford to the Turin derby in Italy and to the clash at Parc des Princes..it truly was an exhilarating weekend.
Starting off in Spain was an early kick off between Osasuna and Barcelona. Usually a tricky ground to play although this time around Osasuna were rooted to the bottom of the standings. The Catalans were frustrated for large spells of the match, a combination of great defending, goalkeeping and poor finishing ensured we finished the 1st period goalless. At that point, Barcelona could be forgiven for feeling a little bit panicky, considering their last 3 matches in La liga finished in draws. Mr Dependable (Lionel Messi) came to the fore in the 2nd period. He was involved in the opening goal by Luis Suarez before wrapping up proceedings with a superb brace of his own.
In Germany, It was business as usual for the Bavarians. Bayern Munich stormed to an emphatic 5-0 win over Wolfsburg. Leipzig the table toppers had earlier in the weekend slipped against bottom side Ingolstadt. The onus was on Bayern to capitalize and they most definitely did. Lewandowski with a brace, Arjen Robben, Douglas Costa and surprise surprise Thomas Muller were on the score sheet. Thomas Muller with that goal breaks his duck for the season, his first Bundesliga goal this campaign.
Borussia Dortmund continue to underwhelm ever so slightly in the league. This time against Koln could very easily have ended in defeat bar a late equaliser from Marco Reus.
Arsenal triumphed against Stoke City at the Emirates. They had to do it the hard way, coming from behind to eventually earn a comfortable 3-1 victory. Walcott, Ozil and Iwobi were all on target.
Leicester city blitzed past Manchester City, 2 goals up after 5 minutes, and 3-0 after 20 minutes. Jamie Vardy helped himself to a hattrick, and Andy King scored a stunner. Kolarov and Nolito responded with 2 late consolation goals. On this evidence, it seems Manchester City need more time to soak in Guardiola's philosophy.
Over to the the match at the Santiago Bernabeu. A much changed Madrid side were in danger of dropping points. After Morata opened the scoring with a stunner, Deportivo responded with a quick fire double from Joselu, Mariano equalised late on for Madrid. Step forward Mr Reliable (Sergio Ramos) with yet another late late header to win it for Madrid.
At Stamford Bridge, Diego Costa ensured Chelsea returned to the top of the league. It was Chelsea's 9th consecutive win, now that's stuff of champions. This was Diego Costa's 12th goal of the league campaign. A stunning left footed finish into the top left corner.
Manchester United vs Tottenham was settled by a Mkhitaryn. An all action match ended 1-0, a stunner from Mkhitaryn who later departed with an injury. The Armenian scoring his 2nd goal in as many games in the process.
The Turin derby ended in favour of Juventus. Higuain helping himself to a brace. Belotti had given the hosts the lead with his 11th goal of the league campaign. A brace from Higuain and one from Pjanic ensured Juve left with all 3 points and the bragging rights.
The game at Anfield needed Origi to rescue a point for the Reds after both teams had committed dreadful mistakes at the back. In the process, netting in the 4th consecutive game for Liverpool. Lallana opened the scoring, Payet equalised through a freekick, Antonio put Westham in front before Origi equalised after Randolph had dropped a Mane's cross. 2-2 it ended.
Cavani was at the double to spare Psg's blushes after going 2 nil down at half time to Nice  After the interval, Cavani scored twice in the opening 15 minutes roaring Psg back into the contest. There were no further goals, it ended all square.
